How much are overdue fines for materials checked out at Belleville?
Fines for DVDs and VHS tapes are $1 per day.
All other items are 5 cents per day.
Fines are based on material type, not on the type of card used for checking out. There is no grace period. Fines start assessing the day after an item is due. Money collected for fines is used to offset the budget and to buy new materials for the Belleville Public Library.
How much do you charge for Lost or Damaged items?
If an item is 28 days late, a replacement charge for a Lost item is assessed to your account. This amount varies according to the cost of the item. The same amount will be charged to account if an item is returned damaged.
Can I buy a replacement copy for an item I've damaged?
Before buying a replacement copy, speak to the Library Director as there are conditions and restrictions which may apply. We do not guarantee we will accept a replacement copy in lieu of payment.
I found a Lost item I've already paid for. What should I do?
If you return a Lost & Paid For item within 6 months of paying for it, we will issue you a refund check. No refunds will be issued after 6 months or if the item is damaged.
I see a "Pay Now" button in my account. What is this?
If you owe more than $10 in fines and/or other charges, you now have the option to pay online using a credit or debit card. At this time, you must pay the full amount owed using this feature. No partial payments are permitted.
How does the online payment option work with Belleville's Kid's Card fine policy?
It does not. For patrons 18 years old and younger, Belleville accepts a good faith payment of $2.00 for overdue fines and waives the remaining balance. (This does not apply to Lost or Damaged Items charges) If you pay the full amount owed on a Child's account using the pay online feature, we cannot issue refunds for the amount that would have been waived due to our Kid's Card Fine policy. If your child has fines on their account, be sure to pay those in person at the library to take advantage of our Kid's Card fine policy.
